My wife and I just had our first 20x30 done for a client of the following picture:

http://www.shareapicture.com/veronaphoto/20041121Odalys/ov__mg_8969_std.jpg

I admit that we did very little cropping on this picture so it is very close to the original 8 MP but I am fully impressed with the quality of the print made by MPIX.COM. Someone on Fred Miranda's site recommended them and we have been using them for a couple of months but this is the first really large print we have done. The picture looks super sharp with no noticeable pixelation and the colors are dead on. They ouput in sRGB so there is very little I have to do in PS to create a print file for them. I uploaded the image on Tuesday night of last week and they shipped it wednesday (eventhough it was double matted). I also like the fact that they charge a flat fee of $4.95 for regular shipping or $9.75 for overnight irregardless of your order size. I still use Costco for stuff that I need right away and where great quality is not a concern but specially with stuff that has bright colors and studio work, I really am pleased with MPIX.

(BTW, I have no connection to them, just a happy customer)

Curious... Do you do the resize or did they? That is, did you send them an 8 megapixel image or did you resize to 20 x 3 0x Ndpi?

Scottes,

I can't bring myself to trusting them with the resize so I did it in PS and uploaded it as a maximum quality JPG.

Has anyone let them do the resize? How did it come out?

and let them resize - the results were equally as impressive.

Recently I took some xmas card pictures for the kids and shared them in mpix - let them order the prints - they were really pleased with the quality.

Yup. I had some stuff printed by them as well, very pleased with the quality. I upsized the photo myself and uploaded a tiff image.

Angelo,

That is actually in front of their housing development. New development on US41 and 149th Avenue. I use to hunt in that area when I was a teenager. It was all swamp. Now it is a new housing development with homes in the $350K range. Miami is changing real fast. :D

I had a 6mp image printed at 20x30 from ofoto and am 100% satisfied with it. My next photo order I plan to try mpix... I just need to find an image I want printed at 20x30 or 16x20.

As for sizing, with the numerous 8x10's and that one 20x30 I have had printed, I never bothered with sending in an image that was 8"x10" or 20"x30". I only bothered with ensuring the aspect ratio was correct 1:1.25 or 1:1.5

I don't believe that any specific sizing I do in Photoshop would be more advanced than what a printing company could do. If anything, I would expect the printing company to have access to more advanced resizing algorithms than your average joe. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't think they would be using a lesser algorithm available to your everyday photoshop user. Anybody have the cold hard facts as to what process these places use to resize?

I've been using them for over a year and have never
been unsatisfied with any of their work. Also, I wanted
to mention, they have a "metalic" paper that is REALLY
nice if you want that look ever. I took one of my wedding
photos (of a guitar player) and photoshop'd it to make it
look like a "painting" and had them print an 11x14 on the
metalic paper, I LOVE IT!!! It's on my wall.....

Mpix.com . . . Try it, you'll like it !

OH YEAH ! Another "plus" is they will ship to your customer
and bill you, the customer doesn't know how much the bill was.
They do all the packing and shipping and I never leave my house !

Good luck! Rod

It's good to know they come out good at this size, i'm thinking of getting some done myself. Does anyone know if mpix will post prints outside the USA? Printing that large here in New Zealand is quite a lot more expensive - 2-3 times more.

According to him - they recommend that you let them do the interpolation.

He also indicates that if you want really big prints, you should upload tiff's instead of jpgs.
