Hey Canon, we want a 24-105L for our crop cameras!
A 15-70L IS would be perfect to pair up with the 40D/XSi, thus giving you a 24-112mm FOV.
The only thing close to a wide range walk-around is the 17-85 IS, which, as you know, is quite lacking!

I am definitely in the "yes" crowd. I love my 17-40L, but if Canon made a 15-70 IS with comparable IQ I would grab it in a second.

Make it f4 and $500 and compact sized and I'll be the first one in the queue

I would like it to have 2.8 also, more importantly than it having IS (though that would be nice also).

I do wish they would make a 17-85 f/4 IS USM ..build to the same (or better) quality as the 17-55 IS.. I'd be saving my pennies for that one! I dunno if it would be possible to make a f/2.8 version (maybe 2.8-4 though?)

What speed do want to see this lens in, OP?
EF-S 15-70 f/8-11 IS ... with the old-school 2-stop IS... ??

That would be great!
