It looks like I need to send in my 3 year old D30 to Canon to replace the shutter. I've never had to send in anything to a Canon service center before so I thought I'd ask about any recent experience by those on the forum.

I'm in Oregon, so would probably use the West Coast service center (if there is one over here). Has anyone recently contacted Canon about sending in their camera for service? If so, who did you contact for information on sending in your camera? When you send it in for work will they also do a cleaning and check of the camera as part of it?

Thanks for any information.

Contact the Canon service center in Irvine, California. You can get there through the web site for Canon USA.

Thanks Bob. It actually took me a bit to track down the phone number, but finally found their 800 number. It will get packed up and sent off to them tomorrow.

I was at the service center in Irvine a few weeks ago and VERY impressed with their "on the spot" service.

Although I won't be using their on the spot service since I have to ship from Oregon, that's good to hear, Gramps.

Eric, I'll be sure and do that when I find out as well as how fast I get it back. Speed isn't as critical as it would be if it was my 10D I was sending in though.

When Canon said my D30's shutter ws at the end of its life, they just had a flat fee of $250. (if I remember right) That covers everything needed to make it ready to shoot.

That's what others have said and what I'm hoping, Pete. I'll pay that to get it replaced as I know it should be good for a long time afterwards since it doesn't get the use that it once did. And then if I decide to sell it at some point I can show the paper work that the shutter was replaced so the buyer won't have to worry about that.

The camera went off priority mail today, so I should hear from them Friday or early next week. I also asked if they would do a cleaning and check of it since they have it.
