for a while my site was just pointing to my zenfolio account, but i decided i wanted a front end, and still take advantage of zenfolio's storage and bandwidth.

i posted the job on scriptlance, and here's the finished product:

http://www.tinnitus-photography.com/

the 'reviews' page still has some bugs to be worked out, but i think everything else is working ok.

comments/critiques welcome!

At 1024 x 768 (Average screen resolution) the images cover text and links.

I like your images.

The navigation under "tinnitus photography" has some issues though. On IE7 it's always behind the image, and on FF it shifts left/right, including behind the image.

hey narlus

It could be a Mac iBook/Firefox thing, but the large photo covers all the links and the only link I can partially see and use is "events". I can't even see the full line, recent shows/upcoming events (http://www.tinnitus-photography.com/shows.php?id=3), just events. It could be because my old iBook has a small screen .....

yeah, i'm gonna scale back the front photo tonight to get rid of that link blocking. i wonder if there's any way to scale that photo and use a different size, based on the user screen resolution?

thanks Dave; i use FF almost all the time and didn't catch that. kinda weird. i'll see what my man can do about that.

i've scaled the main image back so it doesn't block the right-hand links anymore.

Don't do it. You may be able to figure out my screen resolution, but you're not going to get my browser's resolution. That's the number you'd care about.

Fundamentally the issue is you've got an attempt at a "fluid design" for your text (grows and shrinks with the browser window size) but mixed with fixed size images (which don't change with browser window size). I'd trash all the fluid stuff, decide what window size you're willing to deal with (I'd recommend 1024x768 as covering over 90% of users), and just make your site that size.

The homepage now looks better -- no coverup for me.

However, your slide show buttons cover your links, and the slideshow itself morphs and stretches each photo as it changes slides. Strange. Very nice portfolio, BTW.

yeah, unfortunately my coder has gone AWOL on me. i can fix the size of the static shots, but i need him to do the other stuff for me.

my coder came back and fixed the reviews bit (now i need to populate it), made the band name the link for the past shows, and also sorted recent shows by date. the only thing left really is the more involved one, and that's fixing the screen layout for people on smaller resolution monitors. not sure what i want to do about that.
