I'm thinking of purchasing one of these, does anyone own one? Pros/cons? Do you like it? I have a Rebel XTi 400D.

It's not as powerful as I would like it, but it's a pretty good flash. I had one for a while when I still had my Elan IIE camera body.

I use the 380EX because I purchased it about 10 years ago with my Rebel G film camera ... I find it amazing that it works with an XTi ... and works extremeley well at that !!

I don't know that you could buy one new, probably a used one on ebay.

If you're buying new, get the 430EX or the more expensive 580. Depends on what you'll be using the flash for and of course, your budget.

Thanks. I was told the 430ex is my best bet. I'll do some research and try find the best deals :)
Thanks.

I have one for when I want to have a TTl flash on the camera.

the only downside is that it dosen't swivel only flip up and down.. It works great on the XTi when you have to gie it to someone else and flip it over to green box and let them take a shot or two..

The 380ex has been out of production for a few years and does not have the controls or options of newer units, but it's good for full-auto and ETTL high-speed sync imaging. If the price is low enough, it's worth a try.

I use a 380EX with my G9.
It works very well and sync's perfectly with it. I really am amazed with the results.
I bought the 380 instead of a 430 or 580 for only one reason. My budget was overspent at this point so I settled for a hundred dollar used flash instead of a 300 or 500 dollar flash that I couldn't buy right now. I figured it was better to have an old 380 than the onboard flash.

When $$$ permits, I'll recycle it to somebody else and buy a 430 or 580 or both or 2 of each and a ST-E2 and. . . . oops! better stop while I'm ahead!
