Dear UK forum members,

There has been recent mention of a teaching book in flash photography, called

FLASH...THE MOST AVAILABLE LIGHT (Quest C. Couch III)

and since I'm in the enviable position of having someone who's looking for a gift idea for me, I thought I'd have them order it in the UK via internet and send it to me in France...

Question - does anyone have a good source for this book in the UK? Firstcall Photographic has it, but requires a minium 25£ order. Amazon UK seems not to have heard of the thing...

Question Two - anyone familiar with this book, and can recommend it?

Thanks!

Christian

Hi Kreego!

I have a copy of it though I don't live in UK I've ordered it directly from Lumiquest and paid for it by Paypal. The book is rather thin 115 pages. There are a lot of illustrations in the book but it also heavily lends towards use of Lumiquest accesories (however you don't need them to follow the book) as the emphasis is on the use of flash to compliment available light

The book consist of 6 chapters (42 pages):

Chapter 1 So... Why Does Flash Photography Often Look So Unnatiral?
Chapter 2 Managing "Trade-offs"
Chapter 3 The Basic Relationship Between The Camera, The Flash and The Subject
Chapter 4 Flash Units Features To Consider
Chapter 5 Putting It To Use
Chapter 6 Misconceptions and Frequently Asked Questions

The rest consist at Etc. Section which looks at more in-depth explanations.

Overall its anok book which covers a very narrow subject (use of flash). However if you are getting it for "free" and are interested in the subject then get it. Its a good introduction about getting most out of your flash without having to invest into studio lighting. However be warned it is not a HOW TO manual, but more of a reference of various aspect of flash photography most of which are common sense and can be learned from other sources. However if you use your flash a lo of want to improve your pictures then it may point you into a right direction.

Flagpole,

I really appreciate the time you've taken to answer my questions! I think this book is really what I'm looking for, because I'm a rather intuitive fellow when it comes to photography, and experiment until I get things right. While I've made some progress with my 420EX, I'm feeling a little stuck currently, and need an overview of some other tactics to use as a complement to daylight. I'm certainly not ready for studio gear, and I don't do things "by the number"...

Cheers,

K
