I have an A70, about a year old. The problem is the LCD screen is very dark. It is almost completely black unless I point the camera dirrectly at light. If I take a picture with the viewfinder the picture is exactly what the LCD screen looks like. This happened as we were using the camera. I also cannot view any of the pictures in the camera. I no the display is not completly out because it works to access the menu screen. It wasn't droped or anything. I can't find any setting to change or fix the problem. Any ideas????

So you have tried shooting in all modes (including full auto) with the same problem? Outdoors, in bright sunlight with the same problem? You may have a problem that warrants sending the camera in to canon for them to scratch their heads over.... posting a link to one of your problem images can be helpful, as people on here can see exactly what you are talking about, as well as look at the exif data for the picture to atempt to help you....

Perhaps it may have been exposed to sunlight over a long period of time? I do know that some LCDs can't take a lot of exposure to sunlight and they do get dark over time. I had an LCD thermometer on my motorcycle that turned completely black in a short time.

i use a cardboard and cut into rectangular shape and put it at the LCD

The cardboard idea is an interesting one. I use a hood that is a bit more elaborate and includes a magnifyer. The hood idea is excellent. It's too bad about your LCD. You can see my camera set up at my web site http://members.shaw.ca/dsschaeffer

I had the same problem I couldn't find any help so i called Tech support. He had me remove the batteries and the memory card. Then switch to movie mode and hold the power button down for 3 seconds. I put the batteries back in and the camera was fine. Then he had me set it back to auto mode and hold the menu button down for 15 seconds (until the "set default" screen popped up) . When this screen pooped uop I moved selected "ok" and hit "set". That was it.
