Will this adaptor help take better pics?

I was thinking of buying this for my Canon A720 IS.....
Its a 58mm Lens adaptor tube with UV & PL filter. its under $20- & im wondering what will it do?

I wouldn't. It makes the camera cumbersome.

There's a lot to learn without filters, and they only enhance a good image - not make one.

Not seeing a picture or link in your message...but if by "lens adapter tube" you mean something like this: -

...then I would say yes it's good to buy if you intend to use it for things like reverse-macro (i.e., srewing in a very cheap Canon FD 50mm lens backwards).

In no way will it match a proper macro lens on a DSLR, but it allows you to get more creative with the A720. You can see more in my flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pridash/

You may get more joy regarding the use of filters with the adapters if you post your question in the Small Compacts forum.

Yes it is a little awkward once you put the 50mm on it as it becomes quite front heavy. But then your camera is very light anyway and you're only gonna have it on for a specific purpose...and plus, it's easy to remove when you don't need it.

If you do use it for macro, you'll need lots of light to get a high enough shutter speed, as the adapter and lens gets in the way of your on-board flash...unless you get an external flash mounted on a bracket.

But as Jon said, check out the sticky - it will give you a taste of what's possible with this technique...it sure did motivate me!:D

You won't want to leave that adapter on the camera. It blocks the optical viewfinder and the flash. It doesn't improve the look of the camera either IMO.
