Saturday was a visit to the Somerset Stages Rally. Lovely weather, in fact I got sunburnt on a rally stage for I think the first time ever. I was using my "second choice" rally gear as previous experience at the event told me that a dust sealed combination was desirable and I didn't want to risk my favourite gear. So, all shot with the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM and the 1D Mark II (since it seems keener on the 70-200mm than the Mark III is).
#1 This Mark II Escort appeared to be trying to kill JuZ who was lurking just behind the fence it is currently demolishing and pebble dashing.

Great stuff Glenn. I too, seem to have a 70-200mm 2.8 IS, that prefers the Mk2 over the Mk3. I havent got round to micro adjustments yet though, so that might cure the problem.

All great shots Glenn, I think the first one is the pick of the pack for me, as for Calibra's we have a couple of them rallying up North;)

The Mark III has recently come back from a service and readjustment at Canon and a brief test I did with the camera on the 70-200/2.8 IS USM seemed to indicate that the combination was happier but I haven't had time for a full test, hence my use of the Mark II for the rally. I didn't want to take a combination I was unsure of as my only lens/camera pairing.
I did try micro-adjustment before the camera went in for service and didn't really see much difference. The problem I was seeing was an inability to accurately track subjects in low light using AI Servo; it was OK in single shot. I didn't blame the notorious "Mark III AF Issue" for the problem as the 70-200/2.8 IS USM was only lens I saw the issue with. The rest of my lenses (12 of them) were all deliriously happy with the Mark III.

Cheers Glenn. I'm going to load the new firmware on the Mk3 this aftrernoon, to see if it helps. I noticed a few people have stated that thier lenses are now spot on without the micro adjustments, since updating. Fingers crossed.

Hehe... I loaded the 1.2.3 firmware yesterday. I have no idea what it has done to AF but being able to select focus points using the joystick has given me a warm, fuzzy feeling. Much better than twiddling those two wheels and watching the the AF points light up randomly until it eventually gets to the one I want!
