Hello all,

Looking to purchase a tripod. My question is, is the connection btwn the camera and tripod a standard size used my 'most' cameras??

I've got an A85 atm, so i dont need anything amazing..

I've been looking at on ebay for a cheap one.. i assume a cheapie will be ok for me to start on with such a light camera..

these two items have me interested (below).. I realise that they arent gonna be the bees knees in tripods, but will they at l;east fit my A85.

Thanks.

I have a really REALLY cheap tripod for my A80.

They all use a standard thread that as far as I know fits all Cameras.

Mine cost NZ$12 through trade-me, it weighs less than a Kilo, is the smaller than my forearm folded up, and extrends to about 1.5M high.
I wouldn't put anything heavy on it, like an SLR, but its perfect for a small point an shoot.

Iv used my g/fs heavy Tripod she uses for her SLR, its small for an SLR tripod, but with my A80 on it it felt heavy and cumbersum and I ended up putting the camera back on my own Tripod.

The only suggestion I have, is find one thats least 1.5M high when extrended. Anything shorter can be hard to operate.
As it is I have to flip out the LCD, or get my knees dirty, and the extra hight has been useful for holding the camera over my head a few times.

The tripod socket on the bottom of the camera is 1/4 x 20, and that is the standard. Anything you will likely be looking at will have that thread. Some rigs made for large, medium format cameras use a 3/8 thread.

Have Fun,

Two features I like about my tripod are the level buble and the quick release shoe. Especially the quick release shoe, it really makes taking photos easier when you don't have to spend all your time screwing your camera on and off your tripod.
