DePauw had its annual inter-mural bike race today. The race pits greek houses against one another in a 50 min ride followed by five laps. The leader after that time wins, though winning that race alone is not enough to take the overall title-- wins in the preceding time trials and street sprints are crucial to victory.

The women's race quickly stratified into several groups, with these five leading by a substantial margin for much of the race. While there is not a tremendous advantage in leading during the 50 minute riding portion of the race, if you fall behind by a lap, you have to complete an additional lap in the final 5 lap period, and conversely, if you lap the group during the 50 minutes, you only have four to complete in that time.

Other racers in the women's race fell behind and in some cases, fell down. This racer crashed twice in one lap, putting her well behind the pack.

The men's race, however, was a fight from the beginning. The entire group held together tightly, but one rider consistently attacked, pushing the group faster and faster around the track. The result was a very exciting race, something that a timed bike race is not really expected to be. In this image he is pulling well ahead of the group for yet another time.

Here the winner comes across the line. He went on to win the overall award as well as the first place for the main race.

2 is my favorite. Even without the face, the emotion of the fallen rider is well portrayed.

I also like 7, the wide lens is perfect for this shot and the composition is awesome! :)

Oooooooooooooooh, my eyes! :p

J/K. Nice work.

I'd hate to crash on that track surface. I wonder how good the traction is on road bikes?

CUTTERS!!!!

Great work on these and a great event. I think what I like the most is that you did capture some of the spirit of the race rather than simply giving some racing footage.

Haha, that'd be fun: the Cutters are at IU, where from we stole the idea for our race.
