OK I for one now for the last 9 years have always bought from B&H. Then one day I see a great deal on the canon 70-200 IS L and say no way. Well way many got this deal and saved hundreds VS B&H prices. This year I got my 20D non-Kit for $1500 plus shipping from B&H. I liked it so much I decided to go for one more. Then I see here on the forum a great Dell deal! I order the Kit from Dell with for $1439 then I see the member who posted the deal got an other $100 off the kit. So I called dell the gave me credit back to my card for $100 for a grand total of $1339 for the KIT :shock:! B&H is selling the kit for $1599 so you can see what a good deal this really was. Now I am ordering my 70-200 IS I see B&H is selling the USA goods model for $1649 Plus $18 S&H. So I called Dell they will have a great deal on this? No not at all. They want $1801.76 for the same lens with free shipping Tax is killing the the deal with this one. So why are they good for some things and not others Dell that is? Seems to be hit and miss with Dell in terms of price. Also were is the best deal on this lens now? Any one?

Because with the popular items dell can sell them at great deals because Dell has a huge MARKET right now. People are buying from dell like a MOFO!!

Did you see their 580 EX DEAL!!!!!!!

With Canons Rebate I know guys who got the 580 for like 327.00

I'm curious... does B&H price match? At that price, I just have to buy one now :D but I would rather not wait 3+ weeks (what it says on Dell's site)

After Dell's instant rebate and coupon code and Canon's rebate, my final price for the 580EX was $306. It's supposed to ship tomorrow...

I like shopping at Samy's brick and mortar stores, but the prices they list on their web site are always about $200 more than everyone else. At least on the things I've looked at...

The best thing about B&H is their reliability, expertise (at least sometimes with some salesmen) and their vast inventory. I've never succeeded in getting them to price match and I've visited their store more times than my depleted bank account wants to remember. My family sometimes accompanies me and brings books to sit in their comfortable chairs to wait for me to roam.

Their prices are quite fair and sometimes very good. Are they rockbottom lowest on popular items? No. Will they rip you off? In my opinion, Never.

I'm certainly not saying that Dell will rip you off either. I happen to like their desktops and have bought quite a few.

I bought my 20d from ritzcamera.com. They were selling the body only, which is what I wanted, for 1499, no tax and free shipping. That alone saved me close to $150 over B&H. Neither had it in stock at the time. Ritzcamera had it to me in under a week and I was very pleased.

I still go to B&H though. Their website is by far the best, though their search engine could be more intuitive.

I just ordered off the Dell site and got my estimated delivery date... on or before Jan 20, 2005 *gasp* Oh well, I don't have an immediate need for it, and I suppose if a better deal comes along I can always cancel my Dell order.

I think pricematching is more for companies that make a living offering the lowest price. B&H is about knowledge and having a large selection.

I have also used ritzcamera and they also offer complete warranty coverage that is you can use even if you drop the camera according to the sales person (didn't buy my camera from them). I bought my D Reb from Best Buy and they matched the price 10 days later and then 10 days after that they also gave me the $50 gift card deal they where running. Also I bought it with $600 in gift cards (my reason for using them) so for me it was quite a deal

have you ever clicked on the price? they have a lot of items that magically drop in price when you click on the price!!!!

Tofu;

I just posetd the same thing 3 days ago.

Ordered my 70-200 F4 L from Dell;

It said estimated to ship on 12/9 :(

The next morning; I got an email saying the product was shipped; click here for tracking..

I Did; it was on the DHL truck waiting to be delivered..

Total time from order to delivery by DHL: LESS than 24 hours.

I'm REALLY impressed with dell.

Like someone else said in this thread; they DO charge tax; I think that is because they ship this stuff from a local dell partner; not from a 'magic' huge warehouse somewhere in the midwest. I think their ship dates are totlly bogus and a CYA maneuver.

-Tom D.

BTW; I love my new lens :)

Also;

ALWAYS check www.spoofee.com for coupon codes for dell. Sometimes you can get $10-50 dollars off; sometimes 10-20% off....

I love dealing with B&H but they wouldn't match Canoga.com on the price of the 580ex flash. It is cheaper at Canoga by $40. They wanted to check Adorama and guess what, Adorama quoted the same as B&H. I think somehow they are related..(.ownership.)...I asked them about Canoga or Dell and they didn't even respond, so I'm not very happy with them. They sent me the wrong lens last month. I've spent over $20,000 with them over the last 4 years. You would think that I might get better service than that. I still like the store but I haven't been very happy with them lately.

You're right. I believe I heard somewhere that the owners of B&H and Adorama are brothers.
