View Full Version : No 5D replacement in 2008
EOS Man

Just go out and take pictures, there will be no 5D replacement in 2008
My neighbor's brother's dealer, while talking to God last night, was told by Him that Canon will release the 1D III and 40D replacement this year and that there would be no 5D II this year.
All hope is lost :p.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a serious note, I bet Canon would released the EOS 1D Mark IV BUT market it under the name "One dee mark eye-vee" instead of "One dee mark four" to ensure bad luck and focus issues caused by "4" can be avoided
Yeah, well, my auto mechanic's sister-in-law was over at her uncle's place and her uncle's twice-removed cousin from a second marriage has a friend who is a Canon rep and he showed him his 5DMII prototype but was told to keep it all hush-hush.
Would a Canon rep lie? I don't think so ;)
Well, my 8 year old's assistant speech teacher told me her cousin's half brother's uncle said his investment banker's son's coach heard from his wife's boss's sister-in-law that Canon is definitely putting out a 7D in October, but it's going to be delayed for 3 months, making it not come out in 2009, as you said originally, but may be announced next February. There.
We should get some names to associate with these 'sightings' - this all may be coming from the same person! :rolleyes:
Have Fun,
Ummm, hello!!! This is a 5DMII rumour post. Why don't you go an put your 7D stuff somewhere else. I mean, the 5DMII is practially in stores as we read this. The 7D is still just a mere fantasy.
I really hate when people butt into these rumour threads with such unsubstantiated stories. 7D.....HA!!! And pigs will fly out of my....ouch! What the heck was that? ;)
The 5D Mark II is the biggest conspiracy in the history of manufactured camera.
The truth is that Canon has already released this camera.
However, the select few that were gullible enough to purchase it, thought they were getting a 1Ds Mark III.
But Canon never made a 1Ds Mark III.
Lies, all lies!! :((
I know as a fact that they're not announcing the 3D camera because BHPhoto, Adorama, Calumet and Wofl Camera don't yet have 80.000 copies in their stock (the estimated number that will be bought in the first 2 weeks in USA alone).
All jokes aside, there's been so much obsessing about this that i had a dream that 5D mkII came out and i was going to the store to buy one very happily, when i got to the door from the store with the big sale (10% off) i woke up :(
Btw, my suspicion is that Canon is saving this bomb for the Fotokina event (Koeln, Germany) in september. I live in europe, so i'll make some efforts to go check it out.
The current 5D is a great camera, it might be a smart move on Canon's part not to upgrade it so quick...
Image quality tests show that 40D has very similar quality to 5D, nikon D300 is better in some points of view.
5D is 3 years old (i'm still buying one this month though, i desperately want a Full Frame).
If they launch a new version noise treatment, picture quality, imaging delay, even ergonomy would be much improved. Why have something good when you can have something great... so Canon... give us the pleasure of having the succesor of 5D - if not for our sake, for the sake of Canon's name, Nikon is gaining up on popularity with D3 and D300...
Ah I don't think so. I shoot with a 5D + 24-70 and my bro shoots with a 40D + 24-70 when on weddings. Image quality is waaaaaay better on a 5D.
Feature wise D300 is a sweet camera.
D300 is a gadget camera.5D is a conservative camera.
Time will come, when a 50/60/n0D will beat 5D hands down at a cheaper price.
Just like ur dua core beat the dinasour pentium machine:)
Actually, in all seriousness, I just found out the release date for the 5DMII. The main difference with what I am going to tell you is that it is all based on FACT.
Canon's official release date for the 5DMII will be May 16th. Today. How do I know? Well, because I got sick of waiting for it to be release I put my order in for a 5D. Since I just purchased the 5D, they will now release the 5DMII.
COOL! I hope you were able to get the instant 300.00 rebate that BH is offering. That brings the 5D body down to 1899. Sweet deal! :)
I just emailed George W. Bush about the 5DMII. He said that the government is currently investigating Nikon for the possession of weapons of mass destruction, and it is entirely likely that Nikon will be out of business within 6 months. As such, he suspects Canon will release the 5DMII on November 19th. It's features will include a 12.8MP full-frame censor, 9 AF points, 2.5" LCD, ISO up to 3200, 1/8000 max shutter speed, 3 fps continuous shooting, and the addition of the letters "MII" after "5D" on the body.
And I know George, he wouldn't lie to us. :smile:
I asked my friend to buy me 70-300 IS lens in Hong Kong (and so he did) and caution me for buying the 5D now. According to the dealer in HK, before the Olympics, Nikon, Canon & Sony will realease new full frame cameras. Maybe true, maybe not...
I heard a Canon rep tell a customer yesterday that Canon will not be updating the 5D, instead they will be releasing an entirely new camera this year.
Well if they aren't going to replace the 5D in 2008, we'll have the Canon 5D Mark II Field Guide to read about it. According to Amazon.com, the book goes on sale November, 2008.
(BTW, I have the 40D and the 5D and the images from the 5D are decidedly better than the 40D.)
Anyway, click on the author's link (below) and scroll down her list to see the new field guide coming soon...
