I got a pretty good compliment last night.

I had recently taken my sisters Senior pictures , and turned them into a graduation announcement. My parents took them to walmart, and they would not let them buy the pictures (after printing 30 of them) because they say they look too professional . I'm in college now, so i couldnt make it home to prove that they were mine, so walmart is demanding that I ( Eco-photo) write a release with a company logo, letterhead and everything, giving my parents permission to print the announcements...

I had a good laugh, my mother on the other hand, was not very happy :D

That's awesome. You should so do the whole letter in crayon.

That's pretty awesome of Wal-mart actually - you should seriously thank them for attempting to protect a photographers work!

Yes be grateful WalMart does that, however bad the quality is there atleast they protect the photographer! I've gotten calls from friends yelling for me to fax a letter immediately to Sam's Club or WalMart for them so they can buy their prints. I laugh and fax away:)
On the other hand, I can walk into pro print shops any day of the week, pop in a cd and print away on one of their computers. The lady sorts the prints for me, packages them and never asks any questions. He/She has no idea if I'm a photographer or not, maybe they just assume.

Yeah, it was very kind of them to do that (to me anyhow)

Say I went into wal mart, and said these were my pics (and they are), could they just, not believe me, and not sell me my own pics?

They will often ask to see the pics still on the memory card before they give you the prints.

They are most likely to ask you to sign a form saying you took the pictures to cover themselves. I have have this happen several times, they looked at my business card and gave me a form to sign. One photographer, had this happen to him. He gave them his cell phone number as the photographer's number and went to his car to take the call. He came back and they gave him his prints. Very clever, and funny.

I would be happy to hear Walmart did this... Really, all you have to do is send them a letter explaining that you shot with camera model X serial number XXXXXXXXX and they should budge. Both things are included in the EXIF for all jpgs out of a good raw editing program and any in camera jpgs. Might be time to step up to ezprints/mpix/whcc/etc though, they don't make a big fuss if all your shots are done with the same camera/if it includes your name in the EXIF. Never tried any of those with jpgs taken by a friend though.

If not, I do like the sound of "photos '(backwards R) us" in crayon...;)

I know a person who jumped through all the hoops and was still denied. At Wal-Mart, no less. "Anybody can get on Word and make a letterhead.", was the response.

That's why crayons are a must. Not everyone is clever enough to think of crayons.

WHCC prints some more risque shots too. I had a client try and print off a Janey Jackson esque hands over the boobs shot and wal mart wouldn't let him (thank god for that), so he ordered a 30x45 through me and whcc printed it for him.
