Please help if you can!
My first post to this forum.
I bought a D20 body from a shop in Gibraltar, I couldn´t try it out in the shop as the battery wasn´t charged, I took it home (to Spain) and charged the battery. It works ok BUT the re.number for the foto was "IMG_2590".
I tryed another memory card, the same, that´s to say a continuation "IMG_2591".
I call the shop, they say something to do with memory card.
I ask canon tech.support, they send me an e-mail saying "in theory it should start at "0001" but practically it may not" without giving explanation.
I´ve asked canon for further info.

Anyone out there that can shed any light on this?
I´m peeved if there´s a possibility I´ve bought the camera 2nd hand paying the full price, and at canon´s inconclusive reply

Simon,

I doubt anyone can give you a conclusive answer.. However, some people have reported their file counter being re-set to the wrong number after using a CF card that has been formatted on another camera. The new camera then takes it's numbering from the old camera via the existing data on the card.

If the card is yours and has been only formatted in th new camera there is a possibility that the issue occured by a person playing with the camera in-store. Is there a possibility the camera has been used as a demo model?

I hope this helps.

Simon,

Sorry to go off track here, but I am curious how much you paid for your 20D in Gibraltar. I travel there for buisness about 2 times a year and have considered waiting to purchase my next camera until my next trip to the Rock. That may, however, be sometime next May. If I save a serious amount of money, I will wait until I travel.

Thanks!

Is there a possibility the camera has been used as a demo model?

Same thing might happen if they take it out of the box to test it. In photography shops, they normally have 'Demo' CF cards, and I doubt that they would bother with formatting the cards before putting it into the camera (or even know about it).

Best regards,
Andy

SimonB,
Before 20D, did you use the CF for another camera? If that was the case, the 20D used the next number from the last number used in the other camera. Please read this: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=48751&highlight=buy
