Hi, everyone - I'm new here and have been reading up on the 20D. I'll be buying one sometime before the end of December and have been doing some research on it. This will be my first DSLR (I currently use a Nikon Coolpix 4500 and decided it was time to step up).

I tried doing a search on the forum but couldn't find a post where this might be addressed. I'll be getting the 20D lens kit and I'm trying to find out if the battery and battery charger are automatically included, or if I'll have to buy them separately. I saw on some of the review sites that they're included in both kits, yet when I search the internet for prices the only thing I see mentioned is the 18-55mm lens in the lens kit; it doesn't specify anything else.

I would certainly doublecheck when I go to order it, but is it safe to assume that the battery & charger are included? I'm trying to come up with an approximate dollar amount for everything I'll need.

Thanks in advance!

There are two kits available with the 20D. The one you know about is the EFS-18-55 (sometimes called the "Fantastic Plastic"). It's a lower quality and lower priced lens, but a great one to learn on. The other lens kit includes the EF-S 17-85IS. This is a $500 upgrade when you buy the package. The lens alone sells for around $600 when bought separately. This kit is sometimes hard to find.

There are lots of people who don't like the EF-S 17-85IS. Look for threads on this lens. I have it and love it.

This lens is very well built and has a wonderful range. Whether it'll do what you want to do is your choice...
