ACDsee 7 can now handle raw files. Has anybody tried it, what do you think about it.

Thanks

All right, forget about the raw thing, how about ACDsee7 only. Is it worth the upgrade from 6.03.

Thanks

I have it works well with my PC but have a little trouble opening Tiffs. RAW files ok better than 6.0 I use this program to resize and browse only.

I positively adore ACDSee version 4.... still use it for my non RAW files....

I'd love to see an upgrade with the speed and functionality of V4 that can truly handle raw files.

By the way, ACDSee 8 (http://www.deprice.com/acdseephotomanager.htm) is out. It has even more options for RAW and EXIF

I use ACDSee 8. Works great for RAW files, except that it doesn't handle DNG - I'm hoping they'll put out an update. The newly announced "Pro" version does handle DNG files (as well as RAW conversion), but I don't feel like paying double the price of version 8.

I've used v.7 since it first came out and can't say enough good about it. It's my go to app for handling photos. The raw viewer is much faster than the older versions. I honestly don't use it to convert the raw files, but have tried it. The controls are comparable to ACR, but I still prefer C1. As an image cataloguer I don't think it can be beat. The last time I did maintenance on the database, I recall it contained over 40,000 thumbnails, including offline CDs/DVDs. The database can also be backed up now. My only complaint is it is still pretty slow to catalogue optical media. Did I mention it is also color managed?

I have ACDSee 8.0 and it handles Raw nicely but all I use it for is a browser so I really can't say any more!

I got it because of Raw and also 4.0 was locking up on me!

I loved ACDSee 7.0 and used it with ProPhoto plugin to view and oganise 20d CR2 files, but I changed to 1D MkIIN and it does not support its CR2 files. The new version 8 doesn't either, apparently the 8 pro version due in January will, however I don't feel like waiting and paying them for the 4th time in less than 12 months.

I only use ACDSee to view and organise, I use PSE 3.0 or PS CR2 to convert and edit, so I am wondering is there another program I can use that is as good for viewing and organising that is as slick as ACDSee? I don't like the Adobe organising facilities at all - ACDSee was sweet.

That's one thing that really irks me about camera makers and RAW - even CR2 files from the same manufacturer are different for different camera models. That's why we need a standard format, like DNG! Are you listening Canon, Nikon, etc.?

(sound of crickets chirping)

The closest thing I've seen is Adobe Bridge, but compared to ACDSee, its not quite as good.

Thanx Scott, I have been looking at Adobe Bridge again, but you're right it is not as good, but even more important, it is not as fast, it is very sluggish.

ACDsee 8.0 looks good. See http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1873245,00.asp

vjack, unfortunately 8 does not support the CR2 files from 1D MkII N. It seems it will in January when you pay to upgrade yet again.
