B+W and Hoya.. People will rave about both but only you can make that decision...

You can read about some of the reviews here (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/)...

Sure,,why not?? You can always use the Hoya on another lens if it fits..

One way to look at it is that with any lesser quality lens, you especially do not want to deteriorate the image quality with a cheap filter, as the level of quality might be considered marginal to begin with!

Wilt, well said. I bought a B+W Circular Polarizer filter for my 85mm and I've been quite happy with it thus far. :-) The filters from B+W seem very well built and I try to buy the best stuff when possible.

B+W MRC, Hoya S-HMC or Heliopan SH-PMC. Lesser filters need not apply. Mine are all B+W, both the UV and the polarizers.

See the Protective Filter FAQ (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=368177) for more on filter quality.

I'm fairly new myself. You can read endless opinions about filters.

Personally, I have decided to use B&W. Why?

I contacted the US offices of Schneider Optics and requested a catalog of filters appropriate for digital SLR's. A couple days later, I received 3 catalogs.
Once you read how these are manufactured, you may well be sold on b&W.

Whatever brand you choose, the catalogs are immensely helpful in explaining the various filters and their effects.

Here is a link to Schneider Optics (http://www.schneideroptics.com/). Click the contact and email them if you want to look at the catalogs.
