They are a sub standard lens as compared to Sigma/Tamron/Tokina.
They do have a fixed aperature lens that got ok ratings but for the most they do not do the job.

Go to www.photosig.com or www.pbase.com
in the lens or equipment section, there are some really sharp samples for this lens.

Looks a lot like the 100-400mm Vivitar Wal-Mart is selling for $250 too.

It is most definitely a generic branded lens.
I've owned one and it is identical to those show above.
I did some controlled tests with it against several other zooms...and it came out last every time.
The rather average canon 90-300 flogged it at equivilant focal lengths
The tamron 28-300 XR was handily better and even the tamron28-200 LD and sigma 100-300 DL easily edged it out
A lemon?
Well-all lenses are suitable for SOMEONE,but i honestly can't see many people keeping one of these
In my experience most people are quite happy with the image quality of a canon 100-300 (just as an for example) but will tollerate a worse lens if it had something else going for it -the 400mm length for example
But i think this lens is just too soft to be worth worrying about at all :?

If you're at a sports event or standing on top of a mountain, you can focus out to infinity and still get breathtaking results.

obviously written by a manufacturer with a long and deep understanding of the science behind photography!

F6.7, geez, what are you giong to be able to take pics of there...like is like as slow as molasses in January on the North Pole. Definitely gonna need a tripod and well, you need to be looking at a much better lens. Sure the focal lenght is right on, but I highly doubt the optics are as superior as the manufacturer claims.
Have a look at a few other budget lenses in the Sigma EX line. There are a few that won't blow the hole in your pocket that the Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX or Canon 100-400 L lens will like the Sigma 100-300 F4EX or Sigma 50-500mm EX lens. I am thinking it iF6.3 on the 5000 side. I can't remember off the top of my head.
