I have been ask to take some photos at a Saturday basketball game. THe gym is dark or should i say poor lighting. I have a Digital rebel with a tamron 28-75XR Di 2.8 lense. and a 100-300 4.5-6 lense. I need help on what are some good camera settings and film speeds?
Any advice will be helpful

Leave the 100-300 at home, it will be of no use in the gym. Try and set up under the basket, to the rightside of the back of the goal. Make sure your shutter speed is at least 1/500 at 2.8. You probably won't be allowed to use a flash, unless you can strobe the place from above.
Good luck on it.

Dan,
There are a few threads here on shooting basketball with some sample pics - I've been shooting a bit recently and have to say that it's reasonably challenging. There's quite a lot of info in the threads though... hope they help!

I Have checked out the basketball photos and they are great. What is usually done to hold down that Yellowish glow in the gyms. Your photos were clear with great color. Thanks to all for the advice. What should the type of lighting be that i choose the gym is lit with white lights but huge. THanks

Bring a grey card and do a Custom White Balance. Gym lights are commonly some form of gas-discharge (sodium or mercury vapor for example) and have very odd spectral properties.
