A590 slow to write

I just picked up an A590 IS and have a 2 gb SanDisk Ultra II card it in. However, it takes about 1.5 to 2 seconds to write the 8 mp superfine images. This seems rather slow, but my perception may be colored by my 30D and XT write speeds. Is this the typical write speed of this camera?

Yes. It takes some adjusting to go back to a P&S.

To speed up image taking I like to turn off the display and just use the viewfinder.
