View Full Version : S40 underwater housing: AW-DC300 or WP-DC300?

Can someone explain this? Some sites specify a prefix of "AW", others "WP" for the DC300 housing although photos/specs appear identical. Canon site only refers to "WP-DC300".
Thanks

AW stands for All Weather and it will protect the camera from rain and such.
WP is waterproof and it will allow you to go to 30 m deep (100 ft).

So these are different housings???
None of the online vendors differentiate them. I have an "AW" on order which I plan to use in deep water, so hopefully I'll find out the true story before I take the plunge.
Thanks,
Bob

Forget about it. AW is not rated for 30M(100ft).
Call Canon and see what they say , don't rely on info from vendors as 99% of them have no clue about the features of what they sale

If you want an underwater housing for 30m 100ft then you must get the WP-DC300. It is excellent.
You MUST make sure you have insurance cover that does not exclude water damage in the small print. Read the small print, ask your broker. But make sure you have it or you will end up with a useless hunk of metal.
Canon specifically exclude water damage in their warranty.

I just spoke with Canon Sales Rep...
He tells me that they used to make an All-Weather (AW) version for the PowerShot line. But NO such AW-DC300 part number ever existed.
Now they ONLY offer the WP-DC300 Waterproof version.
Check your order. If the product code is 7301A001AA then you know you have the Waterproof model (Up to 98.4 ft).
Note: The company I bought the WP-DC300 also made this confusing mistake. The picture of the camera had the WP-DC300 and my invoice had the AW-DC300 listing.
Follow the above info and it will avoid all confusion.
Hope this helps-
