I just got Photoshop CS and when installing it it asked me to "activate" it. I want to be able to use it on my 2 computers--one at work, one at home. Will this be a problem? If I activate it on one, will it prevent me from activating it on the other?

Shouldn't be a problem at all I've installed it on my desktop PC and (shhhhhh......) two laptops without a problem.

Did you "activate" it each time?

I have activated photoshop CS on more than one system, activating them all.
After four automated activations the automated method no longer works and you have to call PS tech support and explain how you are reinstalling on a system that creashed and they give the activation number. This takes a while as you have to give them two long sequence of digits then they have to give you one long string of digits in return, but they have never questioned me about it and I have had to call in three times now

You do understand, of course, that what you are doing is illegal? I'm not arguing for their position at all -- just stating the facts as laid out in the end-user-agreement. Nobody ever reads those things (except maybe lawyers for the laughs at how they've got us by the short hairs with these things.)

Well, I suppose I could uninstall it every time I left one computer for another. Then reinstall it on the computer I'm about to use. But no one uses my laptop but me, and no one uses my PC but me. So I don't see the point...

Well unless it is stated in the license agreement You can't legally install it on more than one computer even if You only use one of them at any given time.

The PSCS license does, in fact, allow you to install a copy of PSCS on two PCs, so Steven is in the clear. :)
Here's snippet from the Adobe site (http://www.adobe.com/activation/main.html)
Q: May I use the software on more than one computer at a time?
A: The activation process supports installation on two machines. Adobe's Product License Agreement allows a user to install the product on a primary and a secondary computer as long as the product is not used simultaneously on the two machines. While the activation process supports installing and activating Adobe software on two machines, the usage of the product on the secondary computer is restricted to the main user who licensed the software. Allowing others to use Adobe software on a secondary computer violates the Product License Agreement.

There is a faq on the adobe web site that explains most of the agreement, it does say that you can install their software on a primary and a backup machine as long as you are the user of each. They also allow for installing in a new machine if your old one crashes. When you install the software generates a series of numbers, different each time you install, and you "activate" either online or by an automated 800 number. It's a pretty good system actually...
