I can tell ya that the Velocity 5 is *way* too small so I'd be worried about the 6 unless I personally stuff the gear into it to test.
Nice bag though. I'd get the 7 because you always need more room. You can always leave stuff at home and go with a light bag sometimes.

Go with the 9 since you're carrying the 100-400mm. I have the 7 and it gets a little tight with the battery pack & the 70-200

The 9 is just too big - I have a backpack already, and from the pictures the 9 looks almost as big. I'm looking to downsize. Does anybody make a chestpack that would fit the 10d with grip and 100-400?.

The Velocity 9 is the smallest of the Velocity Series that is wide enough for the grip. If I want to use a smaller bag I use the Velocity 7 without the grip. For a backpack, the Tamrac Expedition 5 will work with the grip.

I owned (past tense) the Velocity 7 and it is too small for the 10D, not only in length with a longer lens, not only with a hood reversed, but the height of the 10D body. As stated by others, the 9 is the smallest useable Velocity.
Have to say, it's a very nice product, very stable, handy, easy to access. Used it bicycling and hiking with the 10D. Very stable. slides around easy to get gear.
The Domke Spyder backpack sling bag is better for what you want with that lens.

I'll have to go to the store and check out the Velocity 9 then. It looks so big in the picture.
Thanks for the advice

I do not think the Velocity 9 will hold the 100-400, it states for 200mm lens. There is a zoom holster that will hold an 8" lens. Zoom 519 (5519)

The #9 is not as big as the adverts make it look--think they use a small male model to make the product loook bigger. I cary a Sigma 80-400 OS (about same size as 100-400) with the lens hood inverted attached to a 10D with grip. A D30, Sigma 75-300, a Sigma macro lens, charger, etc fit in well alongside the main camera. I like the quality of the bag and the convenience of swinging it around to my chest for access. There is also a nice handle on top for hand cary.
