View Full Version : Have the 300D hack - what options to view embedded JPEGs?

When I installed the hack on my 300D I didn't realize that the JPEG's are embedded, not like my 20D where they are separate files. I assume this is because the hack is based on the 10D? It doesn't seem that I can access these JPEG's via Camera Raw in PSCS so what are my options? It's a pity if I have to use some other software and complicate the workflow.

The files are separate The reason they don't show up in CS is probably that they have a .thm extension on the file. If you change the extension to .jpg you should be able to see them. I do not think this is an issue related to the hack unless the Rebel without the hack doesn't use the .thm exptension - which I think is not the case.
The question is why do you want to? There are valid reasons - just curious. Once you can access the RAW why do you need the accompanying JPEG's? I delete mine without even downloading them off the card.

The hack has nothing to do with this. The only thing the hack does in this regard is give you control over what size JPG (if any) is created with the RAW file. Like it was said above, however, JPGs on the DRebel and 10D are not saved as JPG files (when used with RAW) they are saved as THM (thumb) but this THM files are a JPG. If you rename it to JPG extension, you will be able to open them with any software that can open a jpg.

Thanks for the responses however the THM files that show up are always the small 160X120 thumbnails regardless of how I set CF#8. I can view them by renaming to jpg. However where are the large JPEG's if I set CF#8 to say "RAW plus large"? I seem to have read somewhere that I need different software to see these "embedded" JPEG's.
