Hello.
I'm new here.

After much research I bougt myself a used Powershot G5.

It fitted my needs: RAW, optical viewfinder, flash shoe, fast lens, cheap and just small enough to go in a pocket. I couldn't keep carrying around my Nikon D200, so I found my solution with "The Other Brand". :D

Anyway, it looks in great shape. Everything works as far as I can tell after taking some test shots.

Using RevealExiftool on Mac, I checked the ImageNumber tag and saw:
1171724
That is onemillion, onehundredthousand...and more!!!
That's like 650 shots a day everyday for four years!
Images from my D200 show four thousand something.

Could this have something to do with the videofunction registering 15 images per second? That would explain it.

As far as I know image number is configurable and not really accurate at seeing how many shutter activations have taken place.

To do this I believe there is a back door sort of where you can puch a few buttons and see the actual information.

I'm just stating things off the top of my thoughts and I'm sure someone will know just how to get it done.

You mean to say...you can't keep up with us, the "other" people?

I think normally the first 2-3 digits are just an identifier.
So perhaps it is 1724 actuations instead of 1171724.

It would make sense for them to have the same kind of data record that cell phones have.

The cell phone has 2 counters, one you can reset and then a lifetime minute counter that is not user accessible.

This would be very helpful for buyers of used cameras.

(Ben, you might want to trim that example picture down a bit. It is 1.7 megs and takes a bit to load)

Thanks everybody.

Yes, that could be an explanation. That there are some extra numbers in front.
But I never saw it with my D70 and D200.

The example image is just untouched out of the camera.
