Hi -
Anyone out there ever developed their pics from a digital camera. I don't think that I want to buy a photo printer because I don't think I'll do that much developing but it would be nice to know an alternative. I've heard a few bad stories about clarity and resolution when taking your flash card down to WalMart (for example). Anyone have any good experiences with a photo-finishing retailer?
Thx,
Laura

Buy a printer. They are cheap as chips now and you'll have a lot more fun.

well in Australia, u can develop your digital pics at K-mart for 47c (4R size)

i took some pics for my friend using my G2 and she developed them there... the results were pretty good, just like a normal film photo :)

the paper they used were Kodak

originally in digital format, these were taken as raw then converted to 2272 x 1704 jpegs using breezebrowser, (my friend gave K-mart the 2272 x 1704 jpegs)

Hi,
I have experimented with Walmart and have had good results. I loaded the files on my computer and burned the one I wanted on a CD and took it to the Walmart. It took about 1 1/2 hours to get the prints. Costs are
4 x 6 $0.46 USD (I think that was the price)
5 x 7 $1.47
8X10 $2.84
These were printed on the Fuji frontier system, the same as they use for film based photo. I would recommend them.

I tried a local drug store that uses a Kodak print station and got mixed results. They do the printing and I had to leave it over night. They screwed it up and printed 5x7 instead of 8x10 even though it was written on the form. The prints were good but the cost was $6.99 per 8x10 sheet.

I am also experimenting with some big print houses for large prints (artwork photos).

There are many web based photo printers out there. Here is a link I found...

Good luck -Eugene

The Wal-Mart near my house only charged twenty-nine cents [USD 0.29] for a 4x6.. Wolf Camera charges USD 0.49. One problem though. The people at Wal-Mart do not know how to crop. I like to fill the frame when I take a picture and the processor took the default center crop which cut off part of my daughters head.

I suggest you pre-crop your pictures to the size you want printed before you have them processed.

I use shutterfly.com when I want "prints" they charge :
From their website:
Print prices
Size Price*
4x6 $0.49 - $0.42
5x7 $0.99 - $0.79
8x10 $3.99 - $3.19
Wallet(4) $1.79 - $1.49

*Get the lower prices listed with volume pricing. Or lock in 4x6 prints for as low as $0.29 each with a pre-paid print plan.

It also make it easy for the inlaws to order the prints they want of the kids. Eliminates the trips to the store as well.
