My daughter has asked for a small p & s for graduation, this looks like a decent camera for the money. Buydig has them for $217.00 shipped (she will want the pink one). Anything I should know about these before I pull the trigger? And, are the spring rebates going to cover compact cameras?

Well, they've just raised prices on many, if not all of their lenses, so I wouldn't count on Spring Rebates except in the form of a bundled printer (for which you'll need to buy ink on a regular and ongoing basis).
What are her expectations from the camera? The SD models have no manual or direct control over aperture or shutter speed. If that's something she'd like, you'll want to look elsewhere. If she doesn't want to be bothered with all that, it'll do fine. My wife has zero interest in photography per se. She's quite content with the SD600, which the SD1100 is essentially a second generation descendant of.

Daughter is interested in just turn-on-and-shoot pictures, not any type of manual control. She really likes my G9, but it's definitely more camera than she wants or needs. If the SD1100 will perform reliably as a basic p & s (plus it is small and "cute" and all that is important to a high school kid) then perhaps I've found the right one. Thanks for the info!

I just purchased the SD 1100 (blue) to be used as a second camera that I can easily carry all the time. It has an amazing array of features in such a small package. I think it would be quite suitable for a teen.
