1.4 is more stable than 1.3 (for me at least) the beta just fails badly at the moment for me.

Personally I'm using Capture One 4 more than LR recently. I get better images with less work.

1.4.1. Haven't had any problems with the upgrade.

2.0 isn't ready. There are still optimizations to be done and there are no guarantees that all of the changes you make with the beta will be preserved correctly when the real 2.0 finally comes along.

Make sure you use 1.4.1 - 1.4 was withdrawn by Adobe.

I'm sticking with 1.4.1 for now. I really like the new tools in LR 2.0, but as mentioned above, It's not ready for prime time. If you have LR 1.4.1 then you can use LR 2 as a beta for select images - just to play around with the new features, but they offer no guarantee that these tools will be available in the final shipping product. I wouldn't look at LR 2 as a real option until it ships - but when it does... Look out, It has some very powerful new tools. I hope they can maintain all of the tools they are considering in the beta.

1.4.1 for me. Maybe I'm imagining things but I think it does a better job with my 40D raw files than 1.3 did - particularly in terms of managing noise at higher ISOs.

I still prefer the IQ from DPP over Lightroom though.
