I have 2 of the 340M microdrives. Yesterday I filled both of them completely full.

Today I downloaded the files. The first microdrive had 92 RAW files and 47 large fine JPEG files on it. The second drive had 107 RAW files and 4 JPEG files on it.

I didn't change the file format all day while I was shooting. Could using some of the other settings such as Program, creative zone change the camera's file type that is was supposed to be using?

Anyone have any ideas of what happened?????

There are several other things that can affect the size of both JPEG and RAW files. Both file types use data compression to reduce the amount of storage required on the compact flash card.

The two biggest things that can affect the compression are:

1) ISO setting - images shot at ISO 1600 will compress much less than images shot at ISO 100. This is because ISO 1600 images have more "noise" in them, and high frequency noise is one of the hardest things to compress.

2) Amount of detail in the images - an image of a tree with lots of leaves will compress much worse than an image of a flat wall.

Also, RAW files are typically much bigger than JPEG files.

I wouldn't be concerned at all about the variance that you saw - offhand, it sounds totally normal.

Hope this helps,

In a word, yes. Different modes in the creative zone save different file formats. The same thing has happened to me.
