Browsing around I stumbled upon this flower picture that failed to catch my eye originally - maybe because I didn't see it in B&W.

The original

(With Rebel and nifty 50 1/250 @ f2.8 ISO 400)

Is B&W correct for this - to me it is because it more obviously "spotlights" the center.

Should it have failed to catch my eye this time as well?

Be brutal...

Sorry, no can do.

Both versions are stunning. I wish they were mine. Nothing to critique, all I can do is admire.

Both are great, but having seen the beautiful and intricate colors of the original, I can only give but a glance to the B&W.

For me the color one's way better. I only use B&W when I want to call attention to the composition rather than the photo itself.

i agree, both are nice but the colour version works much better for the subject matter.

very nice capture.

I wonder what other pictures you had taken with this one to have passed it up?

I am a sucker for a great B&W and that shot works quite well as a B&W.

The color version is very pleasing to look at, but I would have to say the B&W version is stronger.

I wonder what other pictures you had taken with this one to have passed it up?I was taking pictures of one my daughters. While taking a break I noticed these flowers and thought they might make a good image. When I downloaded them - I just glanced at the flowers and concentrated on the daughters pictures.

Spontaneous pictures are quite often the best.
I hope the pictures of your daughters turned out as wonderful as the flower. :)

BW version is pure art. I dunno if accident or on purpose, but it's a perfect execution. wow!

I can't help thinking, allthough it's a good image, wether it would be improved by a little more DoF. Just enough to get all the petals razor sharp. Go back and look before you post.

I don't know - although I've thought about that. The petals in the back of the flower to me are perfectly fine a little soft - it is the one in front that prompts a little extra thought. In the end - I don't know. Part of me is distracted by the front petal being out of focus - but it seems to lead my eye into the image.
