Not being a CS3 user since it seems Elements does almost everything I need, I've discovered what it doesn't do...batch and actions creation.
Question for any MaxPreps shooters..have any of you successfully brought their actions into Elements. I dl'd the ATN file but don't see it in PSE6. Hoping to post my fisrt gallery and since it's small (45 images) I can do them individually but thought I should figure out a better long term option.

Scott - If you're planning on being a serious sports shooter, PS is almost a requirement, so you might as well invest in it and learn it now. I believe you can get a discounted upgrade from PSE6 to PS CS3...

I'd get PS too Scott, it's a necessity...
As for there actions when I shot wrestling and had upload problems I asked if there action might be causing it (it wasn't) - the guy from MP told me he doesn't use them and there's a lot that don't as it's easy to eye it up if it fits all the requirements for all print sizes. If you do get PS the action is quick and easy to use and shows you all the print sizes.

yeah, I know it's something I need to invest in utlimately (sooner than later too). qucik question about it..in addition to creating actions, can I run an action in batch mode over an entire set of images? I'm thinking if I can even do capture and first round and usm sharpening it would be worth it probably. damn, it's expensive though!

Look at Photo Mechanic too Scott. That's just a killer program for tagging and captioning photos.

thanks Chris. Someone else locally recommended that as well. I think I write good captions but I am terrible at cataloguing my stuff and the more I shoot, the worse the problem becomes.

Yep, I use the Image Processor:

I concur with Chris regarding Photo Mechanic. I use it at the front and back ends of my workflow (ingest, tag, caption, rename, FTP, etc). The Code Replacement function alone is worth the purchase price.
Scott, my comment about being a pro will make more sense to you the further you go with your shooting. When you start having to shoot, select, edit, caption and transmit live during an event (as in from the photo well), you'll need to have mastered PhotoShop and Photo Mechanic so as to not interrupt shooting the game. These things will have to be second nature to you.

I know Dennis, I was having some fun with your comment. Believe me, I do not hold myself to be in the same league as guys like you, Chris, Mike, and many others here. I'm trying to get up the curve and definitely understand that there's more to it than simply getting good, well exposed action. I have learned a ton here and have a ton still to get. Thanks for the links and advice. Oh yeah, when you know me better, you'll get my humor more...it's a little odd at times.

WOW! Watched that short video and frankly, that's even better than using actions in some cases. Very cool.
Question..since it's so expensive, would CS2 be the way to go to get what I need and save some coin. I already have the latest ACR on my machine via PSE6. Just wondering if I need CS3 or ir CS2 will suffice.

thanks guys. already have noise ninja but find that I use it less and less since I have learned better sharpening skills. it does have its place but thats for a different thread.
Chris, does CS get it done for you then? Rhetorical ? but still.

I still use CS2 FWIW, and haven't found a compelling reason to upgrade.
One thing CS2 has that CS doesn't is the Image Processor. I'm almost certain this was an addition to CS2 over CS - prior to this you had to buy Russell Brown's Image Processor as an add-on.

thanks Dennis. Having watched that video link, the IP is worth it for sure whether you are buying it or getting it bundled. I think I'm going to jump on board. There is a forum member with some CS3 copies for $365 (supposed to be the real thing not one's with activation issues, etc.) sounds like a great deal. OTOH, you can find CS2 for $150 on Ebay brand new. I know they may not be "upgradeable" copies (despite saying they would) but it seems like CS2 would offer what I need as currently configured anyway, right?

The Image Processor is not in CS.
Yes Scott, CS does everything I need still. I'll upgrade when the next version comes out.
