I am new to the gallery, but have been reading for a while. Does anyone participate in event photography? If so, what kind of software do you use when it requires point of sale?

We have done sports photography for the better part of the year now and have used the web just fine. However, we have a client who now wants digital photos (covered- 1-10d, 3-20d's, and 1-d60), on site viewing (covered possible cpu network or g3's networked), on site printing (covered, 3 epson 960's).

My problem is getting pictures from point A (camera) to point C (print) efficiently. I am sure there is a program that allows full res photographs to be stored, thumbnails created, and orders to be made and carted for purchase on-site.

Anyone follow my idea or plan and have any ideas?

Look at EVENT from www.micro-art.com (http://www.micro-art.com). You can have 1 or more viewing stations complete with Favorite card and Instant Ordering. The Customer interaction is all on one screen.

I have never heard of nor used either of the two above mentioned softwares recommended by the two recent members of the forum(ie SPAM) contributers but I have used and can recommened some others software.
I do sports event photgraphy.
"Photo Parata" for one and "5 Minute Photo" for another. There are others like event "Event Photo Systems" which I have not used and I have liitle experience with "Express Digital Darkroom".
5 minute has a pretty good shopping cart built in while PP is lagging behind in that area as well as the need to bring it on, combined with timely and few real upgrades , which may lead me to change over to 5 Minute software soon.
ED is a bit expensive and confining with thier need to purchase a dongle to make the software work.
We run sales through 'Square" or "Paypal" depending on the situation.
Your Point A to Point C is missing something which is known as Point B getting the photos from camera to multiple view screens so potential clients can see and purchase them all in a timely manner. You cannot get them up loaded fast enough or have to many view screens avalible, trust me.
I am not familiar with your printer but we use DNP DS80 dye-sub printers for quality, long lasting, fast prints that are both durable and cost effective in a somewhat light weight soulution as far as Dye-subs go. But all of that comes at a cost upfront.
You can look at my set up on my facebook link below and you can look at my previous post regarding enet or onsite sales using the search button here on the business thread.
Let me know if you have some more specific questions.
