I finally decided to get my flash! It was tough but very happy decision!

I looked at one of those in a camera store the other day and drooled all over it.... quite a BIT out of my price range though

First test shot, with my dog as the subject. Turned all lights off in the house, then fired the flash up towards the ceiling. I have never used add on flash, so this is a learning experience for me.

Recomendations?

Andrew, for a first flash shot i'm impressed! It worked remarkably well. That thing with grip and flash is huge! With something that size people look at you like you know what you're doing...

I have my 550EX arriving in a day or two, yay!

Most definitely. Even with just my 20D with a 28-80mm lens I have people ask me if I work for a newspaper or see me walking with it over my shoulder and start asking questions or admiring it.

Excellent shot with that flash, it's definitely got some illuminating power to it!

Try going into your control panel and editing the "messenger interface" to be WYSIWYG.
