I'm seriously looking at making Photography my career, but I'm not really sure which steps to take to do it. I'm working on a website, have done lots of stuff for friends, and I take a pretty good picture but i don't know much about the legal stuff (for example: taxes, licenses, and the difference between a self proprieter or a ltd corporation...) What i do know a bunch about is sales, marketing and networking. I would be working out of Southern Alberta, so any local advice would be awesome (I know that procedures and laws are different from place to place) how did some of you get started??

You take things into your own hands, learn what you need to learn, buy what you need to buy, and develop a portfolio. You also use the search...

How did you become a pro (or semi-pro)? (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=41194)

Being a good photographer is probably less than half of running a successful photography business. Most small businesses go under within a few years, so I would recommend that you spend some time focusing on that rather than looking for the short answer here in the forums.

Thanks. I understand this, which is why I was looking for some advice. I know that there's a lot more information to learn than what someone could give me here on the forum. I guess I'm just looking for a push in the right direction.
