Just playing around in PS, but is this going too far?

Actually I like what you've done but again, it seems a bit dark. From what I can see the photo would be nice untouched but that's not to say what you've done isn't nice. I like it much.

With too much photo manipulation the "art" becomes more important than the "image". Not that this is either "right" or "wrong" but rather it seems to move from photography to art (in the painting/sculpture sense).

I think that this image has moved into that category, IMHO, and should be viewed and critiqued as such.

Hi

I like this image very much indeed.

There is still a divide between photographers who want
to keep their hobby "pure" and those who are looking
for a pleasant and visually stimulating image, no matter
how it was created.

I respect the views of the so-called purists, but I definitely
belong to the second group. Your group.

Some of my acquaintances become furious with me
when, as one lady said just yesterday, I 'mutilate' images.

So be it. Pretty intolerant attitude though.

Perhaps that is one reason why we are acquaintances
and not friends :-))

I look forward to seeing more of your creations soon.

Regards
eland

As far as I am concerned this is your best post ever.

Tell me how you got that in PS -- I forget the filter.

Frankly the composition and light are superb -- but I agree that things are a tad dark and bury some of the houses in ink black. But if you lighten it too much you may lose the clouds. So to the composition is terrific as is the tri-chromatic colour. The church is the perfect lead in to the scene -- both in terms of its color tone and size. Its older style sends the immediate message that we are in (here is my guess!) a Northern European town. Following along after the church, the structure and spacing of the houses sends out its confirmation that -- "yes, you are right abut this small town".This is art.

A bit dark (see Slejhamers pictures of his daughter next to a tank on the beach). If you cannot alter this baby -- keep trying, you will hit a beauty soon.

Howie,

Thanks for your comments. I tried to recreate the picture. I'm getting close but no cigar (not even tobacco). I did something with posterizing. I agree that the posted pic is a little dark.

BTW the town in the picture is Deventer, an old town in eastern Holland.
