Newbie Question - Storgage

Are there portable devices for transfering my digital images from my flash card to another disk or hard drive while I am on vacation or assignment? I don't want to carry too many flash cards. More importantly, I just want to get the images backed up. Any thoughts on these devices, brand names, cost?

I looked at the MindStor and other USB drives but settled on a mini-notebook computer. Sony's SRX87 (now the SRX99) fits in my camera pack and is great for storing, viewing, and some editing of photos. The current model even comes with a tiny CD-RW drive but the discontinued model (only a DVD/CD) can be had for under $1400.
More money than a storage-only unit, true, but much more versatile.
