I wanted to take a bunch of pictures in Deadhorse but the wind blew hard for the 4 days I was there. This is taxiing out for a runway 5 departure at Deadhorse. I thought the gap we were creating in the blowing snow looked cool.

nice shots. I really like the contrast of the modern GPS and the old-time instrument panel. :)

Great shots, please show us more. Looks like real adventure, which as we all know, may not always be fun at the time.:D

Nice shots, great contrast between the "ancient" analogue gauges and the modern GPS/radar? display. About 185 kts straight and level?
You mean you still have a flight engineer to keep the pilots out of trouble;)

Thanks for sharing them, well done. Is the GPS a Garmin 480 or a Apollo? There were a lot of round motors ins Opa Locka, Fl last week when we were there, DC-4, DC-6, Beech 18's, C-123 etc. We parked at Miami Exc....

I think we might have been slowing down for the descent at this point. Usual cruise is about 200 indicated and we plan 220 kts true.
The display in the top of the glare shield is just the MFD which displays graphical GPS data and is used for TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) information. The actual GPS is on a hanging mount above the glare shield. As always pictures are worth a thousand words. This airplane is a C118, the military DC6A.

Its actually a King GPS driving a King MFD. I wish it was a Garmin with Garmin MFD though :)

Well all I can say is that you must have to have industrial sized stones to willingly go up in something with that much paint falling off the dash and rust on the steering wheel ;-)
In your picture you don't look at all mad :-)

I think the worst thing is that the horn button fell off the wheel in the first image. Safety Violation.

Nice shots, I like #3 in the first set, do you have a shot of the whole airplane in that setting?

I walked out to the end of the wing and took that picture and this one, didn't have time to take many more. Have a trip today so hopefully the lighting will be good.

I totally dig the 3 crew environment, I can't imagine flying single pilot IFR anymore having the other guys there completely spoils you.

HSI? RMI? GPS? King radios? In a DC-6...
Ernie Gann must be turning over in his grave!

And what about the navigator, aka the directional consultant. Wasn't the Nav there to decide which pilot was right!
If you've replaced the Nav with a Black Box, surely the FE (sorry Spectre) can also be replaced by a BB.
No stick....No Vote;)
