I currently own a G9. While I have also owned a Cannon A60. A70 and S1 IS I am still a neophyte when it comes to the mechanics of photography. I don't really understand everything I know about it. So treat me like the blond I am...

I can't locate my manual for the G9 and I was hoping someone could explain to me the macro mode for this camera. Is there a specific setting somewhere on the camera for this or do I need to specify a mode like Manual or Portrait and then change the default settings on the camera?

I grow orchids and would like to start photographing the blooms but when I try to get close ups I can't get the camera to focus. With the bloom in the middle of the composition the camera captures it as fuzzy/blurry. I had similar problems the other day with a brilliant green tree frog. Any closer then 2 feet and the frog was blurred while his surroundings were crisp.

I did try to be adventurous and try various settings with the camera set on SCN and then either "foliage", "portrait" or 'ISO/3200" and choosing the 'macro' option. I even changed the digital zoom to the various options with the same frustrating results.

I have a small table top tripod but when I am out working on my route and get an impromptu photo opportunity (like the frog) I don't really have the option to use it. Is it human error?

I purchased a set of macro lenses for my S1 IS but the conversion lens adapter (LA-DC52E) that came with the macro lens set does not appear to fit the G9. GRRRRR. The brand on the lenses appears to be "DKE'.
If these lenses will work with a new and compatable lens adapter ring do you think it will fix the focal issues?

Thanks in advance!

You can open/download the G9 Camera User Guide from usa.canon:

http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0900009910/PSG9_CUG_EN.pdf

Follow instructions on page 75 to set the camera in Macro mode.

Pay close attention to the allowed shooting distances.

On the inside of the rotary dial on the back of the camera you'll see a flower symbol on the left-hand side of the rocker switch, press that. You screen will then prompt you to select macro, requiring you to make the preferred selection.

Yes, just press the left side of jog dial and select macro, then just be sure to keep the zoom wide open and then be steady:-)) I never use a tripod and get great macros.

You might also want to read pages 121 and 122 in the user's manual. Consider using a small AF frame size, and use FlexiZone to reposition the AF Frame over the important item in your macro shots.

You may also have consider using manual focus, but try the above first.

Also, consider using Av mode (page 96), and adjust your aperture to 8.0 if possible to get max depth of field (focus).
