Hi all,
Despite a lifetime of interest in aircraft, this was the first time I had taken a camera along to an airshow, so I'm still learning the intricacies of AC photography.
This was one of the most beautifully prepared aircraft I have ever seen. I don't know how the pilot could bear to get it dirty. I wasn't able to identify it, but I thought it might be of the Grumman family.
Any ideas anyone?

You're kidding, right?
I'll give you a hint...the builder's first name is Lloyd who, in 1929, sold his company to the now-only remaining US commercial airliner company.

Looks like a Stearman to me, I'm no biplane expert though.

Not kidding! And I still don't know.

Me either. I'll look that one up. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for that. It certainly seems to match the picture.
Can't help you out with a name Paul, but nice shots there.. Thanks Joayne. It's a lot harder to get good shots in the harsh lighting. I've still got a lot to learn about aircraft photography (and identification apparently).
I agree that it looks like a Stearman. Nice looking one too. Nice shots! Yes it's a beautifully restored aircraft. The owner was quite fastidious.

Izzat a Symphony 160 in the background of #2?Not sure, but looks like it. I remember that couple. They wheeled the plane out hoping to do a spot of flying...saw all the joyflights taking off...and wheeled it right back into the hanger:D

Shame the Symphony didn't really take. I thought it was a very nice package and at one time it was very high on my list of planes I'd like to own.
I think it was a better modern follow up to the Cessna 150 than even the current "Skycatcher" will be.

Small confession: I have only a limited interest in "modern" light aircraft. I'm more into vintage and wartime planes of all descriptions.
I do have a fondness for the Cessna 172 however. My friend and neighbour often asked me to accompany him while he was getting his hours up (on his way to a commercial licence) in one of these. I was merely there to enjoy the view and pay for half the avgas.:D His father was the experienced pilot who was the third passenger. It was great fun...but I have learned to HATE touch and go's...grrrr!

I am almost 100% sure it is a Stearman, but I would love to know the model. The data plate for the A/C is on the left main gear (you can see it on the 2nd image). There are so many models of Stearman that it would great to know the original designation as well as any mods done to the A/C, by past owners.
Great shots too BTW, but next time try and get the whole A/C so that we can see the ID number. in the US you can look them up on the web.

It's a Boeing N2S-4 Stearman. And a most beautiful one at that.
