I have been offered to upgrade my existing Canon 850IS for the Canon G7 for extra $110. I do have the DSLR but sometimes you can't bring the big camera with you because it's just too heavy, big so I purchased the 850IS. Although, I heard G7 produces better image as well as more manual controls.
For G7 owners, are you happy with its size & weight? Will I notice a huge difference going from 850IS to G7?
What would you do?

The G7 is definitely a better camera and you will notice a difference. Is the G7 used or is it new? The current G-Series model is the G9, so your G7 is at least a year old. If the G7 is used, I would look it over very carefully. $110 is a little on the high side for a used G7 + your 850IS.

Thanks for your comment,
the camera is brand new in condition. (From a store) Do you think this is a good deal?

If its brand new (meaning: unused and not a return or demo), then yes, I'd say go for it. The G7 is a great camera.

hold on...

you have an Ixus in you pocket or in your waistbag and you can take photos with it. You get a Canon underwater housing for it at a ridiculous price -great in sand and snow. Takes load to 30 metres. Of course serious underwater job needs a bigger flash and a real, visible viewfinder. But in the breakwater the Ixus with the box is fun. And in the pool.

You can hack the G7 to do RAW images which is not possible with the Ixus but then again you already have the 30D for "real" photography.

Kids love the Ixus. They actually get pictures with it. Of their old man in embarrassing situations, for instance... Sellers try to push the G7 because it is big clumsy ugly and not moving. Have a look at the manual controls of the G7 and imagine using them in a real life situation. Not likely...you got the 30D if that's what you need. I mean "NEED".

I'd say stick with your Ixus and get the underwater box with the difference.
You'll have great fun with it and pictures that you simply could not get otherwise.

oh wow.... thank you for your comment.
Do you know where I can get the underwater equipment for cheap?
Thanks again,

I got mine brand new from eBay shop Cameta Camera (http://stores.ebay.com/Cameta-Camera) at 165 dollars. You want to spend more, there's the Ikelite at about double the price...

The one I got is rated at 40 metres and my kids actually took it down there (sorry the awful colors):

and then you have these (http://www.waterproof-paper.com/cases/waterproof-camera-case.shtml) if you not in the deep of it.
