View Full Version : Zoombrowser 5.0 and "network" drives

Hi,

I recently updated my Zoombrowser EX from 4.6 to 5.0. The program became much faster and seems a bit more robust. One drawback though: it won't work with network drives. Now, I should rephrase this: it works with network drives but it won't allow you to do things with your pictures: all images are protected/read-only. Having all my userdata ("My Documents") on a shared network drive, this is a bit unhandy...

Canon says that "Zoombrowser is not meant to support network drivers", but this seems a very odd statement as more and more network drives are manufactured. Most of them are sold for the purpose of having space for your images. And... part of Zoombrowser is working with network drives as I am able to download my pics to the designated directory.

Now for the question to this forum: has anyone been able to circumvent this problem? I saw a post from way back from someone patching a (n old) version of Zoombrowser to show network drivers at all. Has someone been inventive again? Or can someone point me in a direction how to patch the current version? Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Frank

You could get around this, but it all depends on what OS you're running. I think you can setup DFS and have it appear locally instead of a network drive.

Thanks for your reply. I should have mentioned that I was using Windows XP on this machine (laptop) and that it uses the normal Windows sharing to "mount" a Win2K exported directory. It is mounted as "Z:" and My Documents points to it. Further, My Documents is made available "offline", so I would think that it is considered something local to applications such as Zoombrowser.
