I think if I were to ever switch from Canon to another system the first thing I would be looking at would be for the BEST all around standard zoom lens.
For Canon, here's my opinion on their "best":
Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS - very nice lens but not "L" build. Also it could have a bit more reach.
Canon 24-70 f2.8L - not wide enough on a crop, and no IS
Canon 24-105 f/4L IS - Nice on a FF, but only f/4
Sigma 24-60, 24-70 f/2.8, Tamron 28-75 nice but not wide enough, no IS
Sigma 18-50, Tamron 17-50 f2.8- no IS, could have more reach.
(there may be others that I'm forgetting here, but these come to mind).
So how does Nikon, Sony, Pentax, etc.. compete when it comes to a standard zoom. I'm not all that familiar with the crop factor of their bodies either, so maybe 24mm would be wide enough for their lenses? If they made a standard zoom and you could use it on Canon, what would it be?
