I am on 10.5 and am trying to update to 10.5.2 via software updater..

System checks for updates confirms 10.5.2 i select 1 item enter password and am informed a restart will be required to process update and accordingly hit the highlighted restart button....

My Mac restarts and starts installing saying configuring system but thats is 45 minutes later and no progress the blue progress bar is not travelling any further to the right it seems stuck...

Has anyone else had this problem and do they know what i can do next or does this take hours to complete ??

shouldn't take that long, have you tried the combo update? (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1052comboupdate.html)

also try verifying disk permissions in the disk utility.

PPC or Intel? Have you tried rebooting it again? I've had similar incidents with Tiger and a reboot usually worked fine. After rebooting, run Fix Permissions from the Disk Utility. Actually I always fix the permissions before doing any update and then again after the update.

The problem is likely because this update is 340 mb in size and takes a while to download from the Software Update installer. Try downloading the stand-alone installer from here:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1052comboupdate.html

After it downloads, run it. Should be more responsive.

You don't have an ipod plugged into a USB port by any chance? I've noticed my Macbook stall on an update with the ipod plugged in. When I removed it, the update ran fine. Just a thought.

No Ipod plugged in to my Mac .....
I will run disc permissions {why didn't i think of that?} have tried a reboot as this is the only way to install update from 10.5 - 10.5.2...
Is that doesn't work i will try the the stand alone installer....

Thanks to all for your help...
