Hi Guys,

I want to sell my 350D and get a compact camera. As i'm a Canon fan already obviously the G9 is high on my list but....is there any other compact digital camera's i should be looking at? As i'm selling my other gear money really isn't important. I want something that can take good pics and is small enough to take out without the big bag, lenses, flash etc I really like the look of the G9, Ricoh etc and i'm a clumsy so and so and need a camera that is bomb proof.

The G9 is a solid camera that is mostly made of metal. I think you should get long life out of it as long as you aren't continually dropping it on concrete and such. Buy a good wrist strap or use the included neckstrap and get a decent case and you should have no issues. Oh, may want to get a screen protector too.

As for good pictures, you can see the abilities of the G9 in many of the threads here, namely "Show your G9 best" and the speed challenges.

**EDIT** One caveat to any p&s, they do not do low light very well. However, the G9 does have a hot shoe that should alleviate much of that issue.

Thanks for the advice. Apart from spec etc the only cameras that looked really good to me were the Leica, Ricoh and G9 so i've made up my mind. I'll order a G9 now : )

You won't be sorry with the G9. I have a Leica Digilux 3 and an RD-1S and the G9 can hold it's own against either of them in reasonable light. Good luck. Image below was taken yesterday with the G9 and Canon 430 Speedlite for fill.
