Great lighting to work with, the only problem is that the guitarist and bassist are either looking at their fretboards or have their eyes closed most of the time.

4. John Petrucci strikes a dramatic pose. A little soft but I still like it.

It was a great show but the sound and lights were fairly lacking for everyone but Dream Theater.

Great pictures! That keytar is sick too, its a shame the guys weren't a little more intense.

The new Opeth album comes out June 3rd, by the way. ;)

Looks like tough lighting to me. Nice variety of images.

I'm going to be shooting this show in Chicago tomorrow... while I've shot shows with my powershot A70 and A75, this will be my first with the 40d, as I just got it a week ago. Hopefully I can make a go of it with the nifty fifty and the kit lens. wish me luck! :)

The pair should work fine. Expect to use the 50 for the first three bands but there should be enough light to use the kit lens during Dream Theater. You might have to use ISO 800 but that shouldn't be an issue.

Metalphotographer,
Just curious, did you have any shooting restrictions for this show? I've not been told anything about a 3 song limit so I'm hoping that means I can take as many as my little heart desires.

15 minutes per band. Most of their songs are too long for the three song limit to make sense.
