OK the hard work is done, decided on the 1D Mark 2 rather than the 20D (upgrading from 10D), shooting mainly portraits and a few Weddings a year, need the extra buffer when shhoting RAW and not convinced the 20D was much improvement over the 10D (I know smaller buffer in RAW but faster writing speed).
Anyhow rather than post the This v That Question I searched and read everything on this forum, so I thought I would post the HOW MUCH
ANYONE HELP WITH THE BEST UK DEAL - I'VE SEEN MASSIVE DIFFERENCES IN PRICING

I am located in Hong Kong.
I am not sure how much I should sell it, The MKII is perfect very clean and never outdoor. In fact since I bought it, I only went out once with my Mamiya AFD.

John, I'd be intrigued to know where you've seen a mkII for £2408.
Are you sure it wasn't used?

"I am trying to sell mine at USD4230.00"
I think I'd prefer to get a brand new one for £2400 if I could.
$4230 equates to £2200
But we'll have to see where John can get one from of course...

damn! they don't have any in stock.
I don't think it'll come down in January, tried this when I bought my 10d and the price didn't start to drop until the 20d came out.

Won't Jessops price match it???
Red Squirrel

I have one on order with Jessops at the moment - price matched to £2775
I've been waiting for over a month now - still no luck. At the time of ordering, their head office said they could not go any lower, so I very much doubt they'll go as low as EBuyer's £2470!
May wait and see if EBuyer get any more in.

since your main interest is portraits then why go for speed and not for details ?
The EOS-1D Mark II is a major improvement over the EOS-1D and produces higher resolution images with no loss of shooting speed or autofocus function. Low noise and good color in high ISO images under low available light is a major improvement. It appears to be all that it was advertised to be for photojournalism and sports photography. Image quality (detail and color of images) is excellent and will stand up well to image cropping and enlargement.
Image quality produced by the EOS-1Ds is higher than that for the 1D Mark II for most uses.
Still prefer the EOS-1Ds for portraits, landscapes, weddings and other events/subjects where maximum image detail and optimal color is desired and where high frame rate is not required and good lighting is available. Once conditions of low ambient light or conditions requiring fast autofocus and high exposure rate present themselves, performance of the EOS-1D Mark II is unmatched.
all the best!

ok,
just as a follow up to this long gone thread,
I managed to order a 1dmkII from EBuyer and it arrived yesterday ( only 1 day late )
I can't believe they sell it for over £300 less than any other company in the UK!
So how do they do it?
I think it's an import from the US!
I'm sure any one of our US friends can help here.
Do US cameras come with english and spanish instruction manuals only?
Normally we get lumbered with a manual the size of a telephone directory containing english/french/italian/german and spanish.
And I got no power cord - not really bothered as I have one from my 10d/g3/hifi etc etc.
The camera was set to NTSC as default.
Still, I'm not bothered, I have a UK warranty.
Best thing of all is this camera is ABSOLUTELY incredible. It's so much bigger than the 10D but it's much more comfortable to hold, and I've become completely at home with the totally different menu system after about 1 day. Amazing response times and it feels like it's hewn out of a single piece of granite.
And why didn't we ever get spot metering on the 10d???
Anyway, I'm off to take some more pics in the morning, IF we get some daylight!
ta-ta!

Red Squirrel,
I don't understand how they could supply a US camera with a UK warranty. Where would they get the Canon UK/Europe warranty card from?
The price is damn good though!
BTW, is it a one or two year warranty?

Jessops in Norwich, Westlegate, had one in stock for £2700, brand new. They can always do them at that price now *nods*

You are probably right and despite what you think it is not covered by a UK warranty, it is a grey import. Why do you think they removed the power cable? Must make a note to avoid that company.
Canon UK can identify the cameras by serial number, so I hope you never have to do a warranty claim.

there was no warranty card.
I spoke to EBuyer and they will replace the camera if faulty within the 1st year. ( They have to do this by law )
Can anyone send me an example of what a european serial no. looks like?
thanks.
ps got mine for £2475

It won't look any different from a US serial number; but they'd ship out a range of consecutive serial numbers in each shipment, and Canon UK would be able to track them that way.

Err, no they don't have to replace by law. Consumer law in the UK does not give you the right to a replacement, only a working product. They can simply say they will fix it, and if they are not in business when it breaks down, well, it means paying out to a Canon repair centre.
EBuyer should be up front with customers and tell them they are getting a US model without a UK warranty, then if anyone buys one they know that the risks they take.

If it does break _and_ EBuyer goes bust in the first year, then I suppose I'll have to take my chances with Canon and see if they'll fix it under warranty.
And yes, I agree, EB should be upfront about it being a grey import..
