Hi - Have just got a Canon digital rebel (eos300d) and love it. But disappointed with one thing. I took a lot of photos with flash on the auto setting. They looked fine and dandy on the lcd. When I put them on the computer they looked very dark. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong. The quality is very good otherwise.

The on camera flash isn't very powerful, and doesn't illuminate things well. You shouldn't use the lcd picture to decide if the shot's been done well, you should use the histogram instead. You can change a menu setting so that it comes up automatically after every shot, along with a smaller than usual thumbnail of the pic.
Also, you can alter the pics using photoshop, or a similar program. You end up with a better result if you shoot raw, but it takes a lot more space on your memory card.

I use a 550EX (FEC is a must especially when you shoot in really dark conditions) and shoot RAW to have some flexibility as far as exposure and WB (a lot of times the color balance is off)
