i have an canon s2is camera. i mainly take pics of car shows. but on the 31s of this month im going to shoot a drifting competition. i was wondering if anyone had any tips on shooting cars that are moving at a good speed. any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks

If you cannot shoot in shutter priority mode, sport mode may help. You may want to post this under the small compact digital camera section to see if anybody else shoots motor sports with a P&S.

It's a crapshoot? Sharp subject while still keeping some wheel blur isn't easy & comes with practice.
It depends on the distance to the subject, the angle to the subject, the focal length, the speed of the subject, & the effect that you're trying to get. Sometimes when I'm playing with blurs, I throw a lot away! ;)
Start at 1/200 sec & work your way down to 1/30 & see how steady your pans are.
