This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 800 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read (Before and After #58).

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This will end at 12:00 am PST on Wed, May 13th.

I got a new laptop yesterday, so you guy's will have to let me know if things look way out of whack.

All I really did to this was: added contrast, brought up the shadows, saturated the blue, dodged the really dark arm and, since I have a thing for panoramic looking pictures these days, I cropped. Then added the border.

- Brought two copies from ACR into PS, one with the sky darkened (brought the black slider way up), one without and exposed the darkened sky using a layer mask.
- Photo filter layer blended at @75% opacity to warm the image a little
- LAB soft light apply image layer with color blend mode
- CEP bi-color filter layer @50% opacity with the person masked out
- Added a "hollywood highlight" layer @30% opacity
- framed

Thought I'd do something different with this one.

Made 4 exposures at 1.0 diff and blended in photomatix.
Used corel painter essentials, saturated photo and painted the photo with camel brush.
Added vignette.
Used Darken/lighten center filter to lighten boy.
Added canvas texture.

Crop, desaturate, boost blacks and contrast then adjust brightness and exposure.
Finally, added noise for effect and border.

I hope a winner gets picked soon so we can keep the B&A train rolling.

This was as tough one because quite a few of the submissions were very similar - but here are the top 3#3 - Shadiow. I think that the B&W treatment is cool and give the shot that cheap-camera 50's look.

#2 - Onron. I feel you pulled off the sunset tones the best and kept the image clean - no real heavy sharpening.

.. and ...

#1 - suzyb. The cropping is great. The color is great. The Detail is just right. Well done!
Thank you all so much for your hard work - we had some great mods to look at tis round!

Oh yay! I'm glad my highly sophisticated calibration technique worked okay. It involved putting the new laptop next to the old one and changing the settings until it looked relatively similar. I guess it'll do for now. :)

Thanks!

Next one will be up shortly.
